The province’s economy is predominantly agriculture-based with palay, mangoes, coconut, mangoes and other crops as its main products.
Seeking to attain progress for the province and its residents, the Provincial Government is embarking on a local economic development program anchored on the island’s natural resources and agricultural and fisheries production capabilities.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) the population of Guimaras province as determined by the 2020 Census was 187, 842.
Out of the province’s 60,457-hectare land area, some 56,768 hectares are devoted to agriculture, including 641 hectares for fishponds. Some 3,679 hectares have been classified as public timberland including 625 hectares of mangrove forests.
Guimaras’ population is predominantly engaged in agriculture, which includes farming, aquaculture, fishery and forestry, accounting for 48.21% share of the total number of persons employed in the province. The transportation and communication; wholesale and retail trade; financing, insurance, real estate and business services; and community, social and personal services employed 37.50% of the working population. The lowest share of 14.29% was taken by the mining and quarrying; manufacturing; construction and electricity, gas and water sector.
