Strengthening Guimaras Cooperatives with Good Governance and Management.

Cooperatives succeed when they have good governance and effective management. Good governance means being accountable, transparent, and aligned with cooperative values. Effective management turns plans into actions, helping cooperatives meet members’ needs and follow regulations. These skills don’t develop automatically. They require ongoing learning, training, and a shared commitment to cooperative principles. When board members understand their roles and managers are well-equipped, cooperatives become stronger and more adaptable.

In Guimaras, the Cooperative Development Section of Provincial Economic Development Office (PEDO) and the Guimaras Union Cooperative (GUC) worked together. GUC paid for training; PEDO’s certified trainers led the sessions.

Last June 26-27, 2025, 47 officers from 11 cooperatives joined a two-day training at GTIC Building, San Miguel, Jordan. This training is part of the mandatory programs for

cooperative officers to improve their skills.

The training helped officers:
•Follow regulations
•Clarify board roles
•Improve transparency and planning
•Build trust and engagement with members

These outcomes strengthen cooperatives and benefit the community.
