Guimaras Landmark Jordan

Smallest Plaza Jordan

The Jordan Town Plaza was founded in Brgy. Poblacion, Jordan. It only has a total area of 677 square meters. Because of this, the plaza was given the title of “Smallest Town Plaza” in the whole Philippines by the “Western in the Philippines” column of the Philippine Free Press on January 4, 1960.

The Jordan Town Plaza faces the Roman Catholic Church and is surrounded by hills. It is approximately 250 meters from Jordan Municipal Hall. In the center of the plaza stands the statue of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay who visited the island in the early 1950s. President Magsaysay was the first Philippine President to visit Guimaras.

Taklong Island National Marine Reserve Nueva Valencia

Taklong Island, part of the Taklong Island National Marine Reserve in Guimaras, Philippines, is overseen by the University of the Philippines Visayas. Declared a national marine reserve in 1990, it houses a marine biological station established in 1977 on a 1.64-hectare plot donated in 1964. Originally the residence of the Basco family, it is now staffed by UPV personnel.

Guisi Lighthouse is located in Sitio Guisi, Brgy. Dolores, Nueva Valencia. It is 1 hour and a half travel for visitors coming from Jordan Wharf, Rizal, Jordan. It was built by the Spanish Government in 1896 as part of the master plan for the lighting of the Maritime Coasts of the Philippine Archipelago.

The Guisi Lighthouse serves as a navigational aid to fishermen and sailors crossing Panay Gulf. The original lighthouse still exists but is no longer operational. Thus, the Philippine Coast Guard built a new solar-powered lighthouse adjacent to Guisi Lighthouse as its replacement.

Guimaras Wind Farm San Lorenzo

Guimaras Wind Farm is a project of AC Energy that is envisioned to sustain the yearly power needs of around 42,000 households. It also aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, estimated at 1.3 million tons of CO2 over a 20-year project life.

The wind farm has a total of 27 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), across the four barangays of the municipality of San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

Each wind turbine generator has a capacity of 2 MW. In 2014, it became the first wind farm to be connected to the Visayas Grid. Its generated electricity directly goes to the grid, contributing to the power needs of the whole Visayas.

Navalas Church Buenavista

Navalas Church, Guimaras’ oldest Roman Catholic Church (built 1880-1885), defies time with its well-preserved structure despite facing earthquakes, wars, and raids. The medieval look of its limestone facade stands out in a province where most structures were huts. The active attendance of church services speaks to its enduring design. The belfry, bearing the Ten Commandments in Hiligaynon, holds a fading text, a reminder of its history. Originally boasting a bell over four feet tall, it succumbed to a theft by Muslim raiders, highlighting the church’s resilient journey through time.

Roca Encantada Buenavista

Roca Encantada, the Lopez Clan’s summer residence in Buenavista, Guimaras, is a 1910 heritage house perched atop a hill. Despite its modern facade, it offers captivating vistas of the beachfront and Iloilo Strait from majestic verandas. To reach this renowned landmark, take a 15-minute journey from Parola, Iloilo City, to McArthur’s Wharf, where transportation can be arranged through the Tourist Assistance Center, followed by a 45-minute trip to Roca Encantada.

OLP Trappist Monastery Jordan

The Trappist Monastery, a unique and serene haven, is the sole men’s monastery in the Philippines operated by the Cistercian Order of Strict Observance since its founding in 1972. In 1997, the monastery expanded its offerings with the construction of a church and a contemporary guesthouse, featuring private facilities. Spread across approximately fifty-three (53) hectares, Holy Family Hills graces the serene landscapes of Brgy. Tamburong, San Lorenzo. Established in 2000, this sacred pilgrimage site serves as a tranquil sanctuary for seekers of peace and reflection.

The property is adorned with life-size statues, depicting poignant scenes from the Stations of the Cross and the Crucifixion of Christ, along with statues of revered saints like St. Michael the Archangel, John Paul II, St. Jude Thaddeus, St. Therese of Lisieux, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and St. Francis of Assisi.
