GUIMARAS SHOWCASES ECOTOURISM POTENTIALS AT 3RD INTERNATIONAL OPEN WATER COMPETITION

Guimaras recently showcased its potential as a premier sports adventure tourism destination by supporting the International Open Water Competition. This high-profile event, organized by the Department of Tourism Western Visayas, Municipality of Nueva Valencia, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), brought together swimmers and enthusiasts from around the country to experience the unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness that Guimaras offers.

The competition was held at the stunning Taklong Island Marine Reserve, a pristine sanctuary known for its rich marine biodiversity and crystal-clear waters. Participants and visitors alike were treated to breathtaking views of coral reefs, mangrove forests, and diverse marine life, underscoring Guimaras’ commitment to preserving its ecotourism assets. The event offered an opportunity to highlight the island’s conservation efforts and the importance of sustainable tourism practices.

In addition to the natural wonders, the cultural assets of Nueva Valencia were also in the spotlight. Local crafts, culinary delights, and cultural performances added a festive atmosphere to the competition, making it a holistic experience that celebrated both nature and culture.

Consistent with Guimaras’ tourism focus on sports adventure tourism, the International Open Water Competition was a perfect platform to promote the province as a destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers. The event not only attracted competitive swimmers but also adventure tourists who were eager to explore the island’s tourism spots.

Governor JC Rahman Nava and Congresswoman Lucille Nava expressed their enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The International Open Water Competition has put Guimaras on the map as a top destination for sports adventure tourism. Our unique combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage makes us an ideal location for such events. We are committed to supporting sustainable tourism that benefits both our environment and our local communities.”

The success of the competition was a result of the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. The Department of Tourism Western Visayas, the Municipaity of Nueva Valencia, and the DENR worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was not only a thrilling sports competition but also an educational experience that raised awareness about marine conservation and cultural preservation.

Local businesses and community members also played a vital role, providing services and support to visitors, and showcasing the warm hospitality.
